Project Partners

The “OSH+ for the European Agriculture sector - Stimulating growth in rural areas through capacity building for providers (and beneficiaries) of occupational medicine and OSH services” – AGROSH+ project is a joint effort of 5 partners coming from 4 countries. Each partner brings a unique set of skills to this partnership, which ensures that the results to be be obtained by the end of the project will be reflecting multiple national perspectives, but also multiple professional perspectives (each partner has a specific agenda derived directly from its currently nationally operating roles); the overall and joint scope of all partners being to enhance the available knowledge for the OSH experts and of the occupational medicine physicians.

Each partner has experience relevant to the project, and each one of us comes with a different experience in one of the 2 (two) areas addressed by the project. For this reason partners, although being involved in all project activities, contribute to a greater extent either to the OSH area or to the Occupational Medicine area, based on their organizational competences. This differences are also visible in the way partners will be involved within Learning / Teaching / Training activities. Below there is a short presentation for each partner and the extent and peculiarities of their involvement in the project.

ROMTENS Foundation is a private NGO, set up in 1998 and declared a Public Utility in 2008 (according to the Order of the Government No 509/May 2008). Its main areas of action are Public Health, Workplace Health Promotion, Occupational Health, Occupational Safety & Health, and Project Management (with a particular and in depth focus on Project / Program Evaluation). Over the past 17 years, Romtens Foundation has been keen to achieve "state-of-the-art" expertise in Workplace Health Promotion, and hence it has devoted most of its efforts in acquiring knowledge and in developing and implementing workplace health promotion projects. It has become a member of several European Public Health Networks, such as the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion (ENWHP), the European Network for Training and Education in OSH (ENETOSH), the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA).

ROMTENS Foundation participated to over 50 European projects since its beginnings either as Applicant or as Partner. It has an extensive experience in OSH and training. Over the past 5 years Romtens has been granted by the National Accreditation Agency the accreditation to organize OSH training courses, and hence it has trained around 200 employees and managers in getting a degree in OSH, either as OSH Specialists (226302 Code from Classification of Occupations in Romania for 80 hours course) or OSH Inspectors (325723 Code from Classification of Occupations in Romania for 40 hours course ). As well, Romtens Foundation has performed training courses for Workplace Health Promotion in order to increase the professional knowledge of the Slovenian and Romanian Occupational Medicine physicians. Romtens Foundation has also experience in testing and promoting training resources for construction companies, enabling them to organize successful toolbox meetings, effective instruments to influence workers' behavior.

ROMTENS Foundation will coordinate all project partners, will provide project management and evaluation activities, and will be involved in all project activities.

ROMTENS Foundation is the host of the 1st Transnational Meeting in Bucharest and it will also host a multiplier event.

Several of PROLEPSIS current projects add on its significant experience in working with training for various health related professionals.

PROLEPSIS will be involved in all activities but it will contribute decisively to several Intellectual Outputs. PROLEPSIS experts will propose content for both curricula and will elaborate the documents for pursuing the UEMS-EACCM accreditation for the "2nd Joint Staff Training-Testing Course 2" (for which will act as the main organizer in Athens, Greece). Also based on the approved curricula PROLEPSIS experts will elaborate training materials for OSH experts and Occ. Medical physicians. They will participate in both testing courses: "1st Joint Staff Training-Testing Course 1" and the "2nd Joint Staff Training-Testing Course 2". The extensive experience from this partner will also be used in elaborating the Guideline for OSH practice within the Agriculture sector. This experience is the reason why PROLEPSIS is involved also in the "Implementation of Course 2-Occupational Medicine for Agriculture" along with UMFVBT and ROMTENS Foundation.

PROLEPSIS will host a transnational meeting in Athens and a multiplier event in order to disseminate the results of the project.

Project Results

All project results (regardless being considered as outputs, outcomes or impact results) represent the joint effort of all AGROSH+ project partners, and the responsibility and credit is jointly shared by them. Having said that it is also important to mention that to each partner has been designated a clear role in the implementation of the project activities and, accordingly, in the development of the project results.

From a descriptive perspective project results are divided in 2 (two) categories: tangible results - the ones that will generate a tangible outcome (document, website and other media) and intangible results - the ones that will lead to an increased level of knowledge, to a higher level of institutional capacity (for the project partners), to increased knowledge for trainees (enhanced knowledge, newly acquired skills, changed attitudes) and higher specificity and up-to-date services (OSH and occupational medicine services) provided to companies form the agriculture sector.

The tangible results category includes 13 Intellectual Outputs (IO) that will be produced during the lifetime of the project. They are as follows:

		Comparative Study - OSH systems;

		Course 1 Training Curriculum & Accreditation Dossier - Safety Experts;

		Course 2 Training Curriculum & Accreditation Dossier - Occupational Med. Doctors;

		Course 1 Training Materials - Safety Experts;

		Course 2 Training Materials - Occupational Med. Doctors;

		Course 1 Evaluation Package - Safety Experts;

		Course 2 Evaluation Package - Occupational Physicians;

		Technical Specifications & Blueprint & Guideline for the e-learning platform;

		E-learning platform (for both);

		Guideline for OSH practice within the Agriculture sector;

		Article to be published in OSH journals;

		Concept & messages for the instruments of the dissemination package;

		Concept and proposals of curriculum & content changes for graduate/post-graduate education;

Within the intangible results category we could list (without being limited to) the following:

		Increased competences of the trainees (furthermore illustrated distinctively by their increased knowledge, changed attitudes, and new skills acquired)

		Increased institutional capacity for the project partners in managing OSH and Occupational Medicine training courses, both at national and European level;

		Increased specificity, enhanced quality and up-to-date OSH services provided to agricultural companies;

About the Project

ERASMUS+ is the main EU program aiming to fund actions within the domains of education, training, youth and sport. With a total budget of 14.7 billion euros over a period of seven years (2014-2020), Erasmus+ aims to contribute to the Europe 2020 strategy for growth, jobs, social equity and inclusion, as well as the aims of ET2020, the EU's strategic framework for education and training. Erasmus+ also aims to promote the sustainable development of its partners in the field of higher education, and contribute to achieving the objectives of the EU Youth Strategy. More information on ERASMUS+ are available here.

The AGROSH+ project was submitted for evaluation to the National Agency for Community Programs in the Field of Education and Training (www.anpcdefp.ro) –under the ERASMUS+ / Key Action 2 (AC2) - Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices / Strategic Partnership.

The project was submitted by ROMTENS Foundation along with its partners:

-      PROLEPSIS - Institute of Preventive Medicine Environmental and Occupational Health from Greece, Athens http://www.prolepsis.gr ;

-      FCBZR - Foundation "Center for Safety and Health at Work“ from Bulgaria, Sofia http://fcbzr.org ;

-      UMFVBT - Victor Babeş University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara from Romania, Timisoara http://www.umft.ro ;

-      WRC - Work Research Centre Ireland Ltd from Ireland, Dublin http://www.wrc-research.ie ;

The project proposal project was accepted (with significant adjustments) and financed under the contract 2016-1-RO01-KA202-024790 with a total budget of 193.512,5 €. The lifespan of this project is 24 months, namely from the 1st of September 2016 to the 31st of August2018.

The selection of partners / countries was not a random one, it was informed, and determined to a certain extent, by the fact that from an economic perspective in all 4 project partner countries agriculture is a key sector. Moreover before submitting this project, Romtens Foundation performed a thorough analysis at country level in 5 countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland and Spain).. According to the 2012 data of EUROSTAT/ESAW for EU-28, agriculture occupies the 4th place (out of 22 NACE categories analyzed) in terms of number of both non-fatal and fatal accidents. On the other hand, the same statistics for occupational diseases are showing a similar situation, agriculture occupies the 4th position within the economic sectors producing sick leaves in EU-28 countries (EUROSTAT/ESAW). Having taken into account these figures one of the first conclusions drawn was that there is a stringent need of specific knowledge articulated as training packages for those OSH experts and occupational medicine physicians providing services to the agriculture sector. In order to fulfill this need, AGROSH+ aims to join multiple countries in an effort to gather, adapt and adjust the specific knowledge of each partners as to enhance the competences of the relevant experts.

The general objective of the project is to enhance the knowledge and expertise of those OSH experts (safety engineers and occupational medicine doctors) who are in charge with providing OSH services (occupational safety & occupational health) to enterprises working within the agriculture sector (multiple sub-sectors comprised).

The specific objectives of the project are:

I. To assess the Training Needs of specialists (safety experts & occupational physicians) providing OSH services & Occupational medicine services to the agriculture sector;

2. To enhance the level of expertise (increasing their knowledge, skills, and attitude) for a number of 57 specialists (27 OSH experts & 30 Occ. Medical physicians);

3. To increase the level of information for a community of 100 OSH experts & Occupational medicine physicians,but also other interested parties active in the agriculture sector;

4. To enhance partners' institutional capacity (in terms of training in the fields of OSH & Occupational Medicine) so as to further impact VET and education systems in accommodating changes of their curricula and contents related to the envisaged fields.

It is aiming to achieve this results through: a training needs assessment, transnational collaborative working on 2 occupational standards, capacity building for project partners, and by strengthening ties at local level between OSH providers, OSH training providers, companies, social partners, and local public administrations. These activities, foreseen by the project, are grouped as showed below:

		Activities involving generating new materials: There will be developed two new training courses, each benefitting of the appropriate accreditation; the course dedicated to occupational medicine physicians will be accredited as a Continuous Medical Education course (thus providing CME credits) both at national and European levels, while the course for OSH experts will get accreditation from the National Authority for Qualifications. Each one of these two new training courses will have a Curriculum, as well as a Training Plan, and of course Training Materials (amongst which there will be a manual, academic presentations, a glossary, case studies, collective exercises, individual exercises, etc.).

		Learning / Teaching / Training activities: The project proposes an innovative approach for these activities and hence foresees a tiered process (2 steps involved) for each of the two training courses:

				In the first step each partner will attend the two Joint Staff Training events (C1-"1st Joint Staff Training-Testing Course 1" (Bulgaria) and C2-"2nd Joint Staff Training-Testing Course 2" (Greece)). These events have been designed for joint work and collaborative testing of the training materials. The overall project partners' participation in the testing events is a reflection of one of the most important elements of the project design, joint authorship and joint responsibility for the two new products, namely Course 1 and Course 2 (Course 1 is the one designed for Safety Experts while Course 2 is for Occupational Medicine Physicians).

				In the second step of this process partners will implement both of the training courses (Course 1 and Course 2), courses for which the training materials were tested in step 1. A group of three partners will implement Course 1 (Romtens Foundation, WRC Ireland, and FCBZR Bulgaria) and a group of three partners (Romtens Foundation, UMFVBT Romania and PROLEPSIS Greece) will implement Course 2.
Each of the two training courses is a blended training course, with both face-to-face and e-learning activities performed by the trainees.

		DEOR activities: (Dissemination & Exploitation of project Results): under the generic name of DEOR activities various types of activities shall be unfolded information and promotion activities, dissemination activities, etc. Examples of such activities to be performed (without being limited to) are the following: presentations within partners’ organizations, partners’ websites and newsletters, national and international conferences, social media and other means of disseminating. In addition, the project will promote the achieved results during the multiplier events (to be organized in every country). Each project partner (except for the second Romanian partner UMFVBT) will organize an event in order to disseminate at national level the intellectual outputs produced during the project within the interested relevant professional communities (OSH, occupational medicine, agriculture, public health, etc.).

		Project management and Evaluation activities: ROMTENS Foundation will perform these activities by developing and using throughout the project’s lifetime several instruments such as: procedures, templates for project implementation and reporting, but also for evaluating the project. Cooperation and communication among the partners will be facilitated by the transnational meetings, which will take place in each of the 4 countries. These meetings will also have a technical role for discussing the content for the materials developed.

During the project’s lifetime there will be produced a series of results which could be divided (solely from a descriptive perspective) into 2 (two) categories. The first category includes the tangible results such as training curricula, accreditation dossiers, training materials and evaluation packages for Course 1 and Course 2, e-learning platform and a guideline for OSH practice within the Agriculture sector. The second category includes intangible results such as (without being limited to): increased competences of the trainees (furthermore illustrated distinctively by their increased knowledge, changed attitudes, and new skills acquired), increased capacity in terms of quality and appropriateness of OSH services provided to agricultural companies, and increased capacity of the project partners in implementing training courses in these domains (OSH and occupational medicine).

More information about how and where you can access the project tangible results and more detailed descriptions of all results is available within the Project Results section of this website.

This projects aims to have more than 10000 participants who will be getting in contact with the project activities or results. These participants are encompassing the following categories:

		Project partners’ staff and experts in OSH and Occupational Medicine;

		OSH Experts who are going to be trainees attending the "Implementation of Course 1-OSH for Agriculture" event

		Occupational Medicine doctors who are going to be trainees attending the "Implementation of Course 2-Occupational Medicine for Agriculture" event

Welcome to the AGROSH+ Website

The project “OSH+ for the European Agriculture sector - Stimulating growth in rural areas through capacity building for providers (and beneficiaries) of occupational medicine and OSH services” – AGROSH+ (further on referred as the AGROSH+ project) aims to enhance the knowledge and expertise of those OSH experts (occupational medicine doctors and safety engineers ) who are providing their services to enterprises unfolding their activities within the agriculture sector (multiple sub-sectors comprised)

The idea of this project is stemming in an analysis developed at national level (though in 5 countries – Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland, Spain, and Romania), and performed by ROMTENS Foundation with the support of its partners; the analysis revealed that there is a stringent need for specifically adapted and crafted knowledge, articulated as training packages, for Occupational Safety and Health experts and Occupational Medicine Physicians providing services to the agriculture sector.

Once this conclusion was drawn, ROMTENS Foundation and its partners (Institute of Preventive Medicine Environmental and Occupational Health - PROLEPSIS from Greece, Foundation "Center for Safety and Health at Work“ - FCBZR from Bulgaria, The Victor Babeş University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara - UMFVBT from Romania and Work Research Centre Ireland Ltd - WRC from Ireland) decided to bring together their expertise in the Occupational Safety and Health and Occupational Medicine domains and design a project that will aim to gather, adapt and adjust knowledge from each partner so as to address the identified and assessed need. As a result the AGROSH+ project proposal was assembled and submitted successfully for funding in March 2016, in Romania, to the ERASMUS+ program / Strategic Partnerships / Training.

The project started on the 1st of September 2016 and it will end on the 31st of August 2018. AGROSH+ wants to cast a different perspective on the Occupational Safety & Health services provided to companies in agriculture by enhancing the competences of the services’ providers (occupational medicine doctors and OSH experts); the two training courses, one for each of the professional categories mentioned, will be developed by taking into account the peculiarities of the agriculture-based workplaces (from occupational risks to occupational diseases) and tested with experts who are currently involved in providing such services to rural companies. These two training courses, together with a Guideline dedicated to end-users, do represent the most important outcomes of our project.

By browsing this website, you will find more information about this project, about its project partners and about its results. If you are an expert or provider of services (either an occupational medicine specialist or an OSH expert), and if you are interested in enhancing your knowledge in Occupational Safety and Health and/or Occupational Medicine, please register free on the e-learning platform. If you are simply interested in the domains the project it is tackling, and should you need more information, please contact us at the email office@romtens.ro .
